Different Types of Dog Breeds

The dog is a domesticated descendant of the wolf, distinguished by an upturned tail. The dog is descended from an extinct wolf, and the modern wolf is the dog's closest living relative. The dog was the first species to be domesticated by hunter-gatherers over 15,000 years ago before agriculture was developed. Here are different types of dog breeds:

  • Sporting Group: Dogs in sporting groups were bred to be the best helpers for hunters. Their goal is to catch wild birds. Sports dogs are cute and versatile pets and perfect additions to active families, as these energetic and alert dogs, need lots of exercise and time outside.
  • Hound Group: Initially, the greyhound was also used for hunting and was classified as a sports dog. While it is difficult to summarize such a diverse group of dogs, the charming and affectionate dogs in this group generally make loyal companions and family pets, and some require more strength than others.
  • Toy Group: These little dogs are easy-to-carry that mostly sit on people's laps — or walk around. Ideal for apartment living or anyone with limited space. They are intelligent, sociable, and energetic, and despite their small stature, many have strong defensive instincts and big personalities.

These dogs include farm and draft animals, guard, police and military dogs, and guide and service dogs.
