1. Choose the right toothbrush.

Choose the right toothbrush for your needs. A soft-bristled toothbrush is best for gentle brushing and will not damage your teeth. If you have sensitive teeth, choose a toothbrush with bristles that are softer than normal. Plaque can be removed more effectively this way.

2. Start with the front of your teeth.

Brush from the front of your teeth to the back, using circular, back-and-forth motions. Use fluoride toothpaste if you want to help protect your teeth against decay and gum disease. Be sure to use enough toothpaste so that it covers all of your teeth and gums. Spit out any excess after brushing.

3. Brush all around each tooth.
